Sukin Skincare!

Heya everyone,
How are we all today?

Here with a review for you guys :)

When it comes to skin care Im very much into a natural approach. I'd be more fastidious about it but it's almost impossible to find a good natural, cosmetic line that actually works!

However, when it comes to skincare it's much easier to find all natural companies. A big problem with this can be price - all natural generally translates to "expensive".

One of my favourites is Akin and Alchemy which is part of the Purist Company. Akin is the skincare section (body/face moisturiser, cleanser, toner, scrubs) and Alchemy covers all the hair products (shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner). One of my favourites lines, yes, but cost quite a bit. Fortunately the majority of my family has sensitive skin so we have to buy more natural products anyway :)

ANYWAY! Back to Sukin. Sukin is one of the best discoveries I've made! They have all the benefits of a natural skin care brand (no parabens*, sulphates, etc) with the cheap price of a more "drugstore" company.

*(if you don't know what parabens are they're a cosmetic preservative that has been linked to cancer and such. A good video to check out if you want to know more is MissJenFabulous' video on it http://www.youtube.com/user/MissJenFABULOUS#p/search/4/ZbD4GOr7HWQ)

The brand contains both skincare and hair products, unfortunately as far as I know they're only available in Australia :(

Whilst I haven't tried every product in the line, I've tried my fair share and Im definitely impressed. I've been using quite a few of these products for quite some time now and they are definitely up to my standards.

First off, the packaging is really sleek. It's quite simple and for a lot of the products you can choose whether you want a pump or a flip top cap dispenser. Personally I prefer the pump but it's all subjective haha.

The first face product I have is the Facial Moisturiser. I love this and use it everyday! It costs $9.95 for 125mL which may seem a little steep but a face moisturiser from Akin is around $40 so you tell me what's logical! Haha
The site claims its: "A lightweight cream which combines a delicate infusion of aloe vera, horsetail, nettle and burdock to soothe with skin healing rosehip oil, wheat germ, jojoba and avocado oil to promote healthy skin renewal and help minimise the signs of ageing. This daily moisturiser provides fast absorbing, deeply penetrating hydration that softens and soothes skin. Suitable for all skin types."
Personally I have combination oily skin and my sister has combination dry so it can be used on most types of skin. However it may not by hydrating enough for people with really dry skin and likewise with really oily skin, it may be too rich. However, I find it a perfect combination and the moisturiser itself claims to be for all skin types which I agree with. I have continually repurchased this and - along with my sister - have gone through around 5 or 6 bottles.

The next product is also a face product and it's the Hydrating Mist Toner. Like the moisturiser it cost $9.95 for 125mL, which is again, relatively cheap. As a toner, Im not sure if it really works, by I've never really found much use for toner so I guess I can't really judge. What I do like about this product is that it's incredibly hydrating. It's great to use in summer on those really hot days and if your makeup is looking especially "cakey" and you just want to get a bit more of a dewy look, spraying this on top achieves exactly this :)
The site claims: "This alcohol-free, skin hydrating mist combines German chamomile and rosewater to help soothe, tone and cool tired skin. Use after cleansing or whenever your skin feels tired or stressed. Perfect for hot days, long flights or long days in an air-conditioned environment."
I particularly like the lack of alcohol and parabens in these products.

Next is the Hand and Nail cream. I really like this product (again it's $9.95 for 125mL) and it's really great for a lightweight lotion to soften hands. What I do find though is that when my hands become extremely dry, like they do in winter because of the cold air and our central heating, it's not rich enough to hydrate my hands they way they need to be. However it's still a great product that I have repurchased before.
The site claims: "This non-greasy, light, moisture rich formula combines hydrolysed soy protein to strengthen nails and cuticles with aloe vera and vitamin E to soothe, soften and protect hardworking hands. Suitable for all skin types especially dry and sensitive. Perfect for manicures and pedicures."

Forgot to mention, all these products are great for people with sensitive skin (and therefore normal skin too).

Next up is the Hydrating Body Lotion, which costs $19.95 for 500mL (but there is a smaller bottle available which I believe is $12.95 for 250mL). Again, a really nice product.
The site claims: "Enriched with an infusion of aloe vera, nettle, horsetail and burdock combined with rosehip, avocado and jojoba oils to hydrate thirsty skin and improve elasticity. My skin on my body doesn't get nearly as dry as my hands so Im not really in need of a suuuuper hydrating body lotion. And this product provides the right amount - not so rich that its greasy but not too light! It's pretty much your average body lotion. But it's really nice anyway and is another one I have repurchased.

The next product is the only letdown of the ones I've tried and it's the Body Scrub. Now don't get me wrong, Im not wanting an extremely coarse and "scratchy" body scrub, but when I use a body exfoliator its part of my requirements to have at least some! Im exaggerating. There are some exfoliating beads but not nearly enough to have any real effect. So if you like a really gentle exfoliating body scrub then this is for you.
The site claims: "This full body scrub gently polishes and refines skin texture leaving clean, radiant skin. Body Scrub, Aloe Vera, Bamboo, Walnut Shell, Vitamin E, Chamomile, Rosehip Oil. Non-abrasive, micro particles of bamboo extract and ground walnut shells work to remove dead skin cells and promote health circulation. Aloe vera, jojoba, sesame and rosehip oils help combat dryness and hydrate skin for post-exfoliation glow." It retails for $12.95 also for 200mL.

Last but not least is the Botanical Protein Treatement (for hair). It's $??? for 100mL and comes in a little tub. This is one of my favourites and I have repurchased many times before. I used to have really long hair (down to my waist plus my hair is curly which means it's naturally dry anyway) and I swear this product is the only thing that kept it health! Because my hair was so long, I had tried numerous "home made" and store bought deep conditioners but this is the best I've tried so far. The site claims: "A deep conditioning protein treatment to nourish and strengthen hair. Rich in aloe vera, calendula and chamomile to soothe tired, dry hair, hydrolysed wheat protein to fortify and sesame to deliver long lasting nourishment." It's super hydrating and when used makes your hair feel incredibly soft and silky (a rare thing for my hair at the time). Now my hair is much shorter (a but longer than my shoulders) I still use it and it works the same but I use it much less frequently now.

So there you go! My review on Sukin products. Overall Im really impressed with the products. My ratings?
Face Moisturiser: 9/10
Hydrating Mist Toner: 7/10
Hand and Nail Cream: 8/10
Body Moisturiser: 8/10
Body Scrub: 4/10
Botanical Protein Treatment: 9/10
